My Adventure

Welcome to Belize! I created this blog to document my year in Belmopan, Belize, from October 2011 to June 2012, and keep the people I love updated on my life as I take this crazy ride. So whether you are my family, close friend, acquaintance, or total stranger, I really hope you enjoy my blog and take something worthwhile from it.
Since I really have no clue as to writing a blog, much less a blog that people actually want to read, be patient with me (please), and I guess I’ll start with a background of how I arrived in this wonderful country.  I graduated in May of 2011 with a double major in biology and psychology, which everyone knows equals perpetual unemployment unless you continue with further schooling of some kind. So as I looked at my options I found: A. look (and probably fail) for some kind of grown-up job, B. take the GRE and enter grad school in the fall, or C. none of the above.  Given my choices, I naturally decided on the most uncertain option C. But here’s my logic- when else in my life am I going to have the luxury of doing something this crazy and unpredictable? Never, that’s when.
So I began looking for a better way to spend my time than in work or class. I’m not meant to stay in one place for too long, it’s just not the way I’m wired. I need to see new places, meet new people, and try new things. Most of all, I want to do something that matters.
So skipping all of the boring details of I did this research and talked to that organization, I landed here in Belize. I’m a full time volunteer tutor and counselor and working with incredible people every day. I’m ready for the best year of my life, loving, living, and giving everything I have to make the world just a little bit of a better place.
